So many have asked about this, I thought it was time for a post in the FAQ. The "Redneck tune up" is a simple procedure for clearing trash from the carb jets. Here's how:

1) Remove the 10mm nut and the air "horn" from the top of the carb. Be careful not to lose the rubber gasket that seals the air horn to the carb. Also pay attention to the little rubber hose that connects the air horn to the intake manifold... be careful not to pull it off or tear it.

2) Use pliers to unscrew and remove the stud that holds the air horn to the carb.

3) Put the tranny in Neutral, apply the parking brake and start the engine.

4) While standing in front of the vehicle, use your left hand to pull the throttle cable and rev the engine to approximately 4k rpm, then use your right hand to completely cover the throat of the carb and block off the airflow. (There will be a strong suction, but not enough to hurt your hand.) The vacuum that forms in the carb is usually strong enough to pull dirt and debris out of it's hiding places, and clear clogged jets and orifices.

5) Repeat the procedure two or three times, then replace the stud, the air "horn" and the 10mm nut. (The "big end" of the stud goes UP.)
